TGEU Submission to UK Government Consultation ‘Gender Recognition Act (2004)’

TGEU made a submission to the public consultation on the reform of the UK Gender Recognition Act 2004, adding our voice to the many asking for an overhaul of the gender recognition law.

Our main asks are:

  • demedicalisation of gender recognition procedures, including removal of proof of a mental health diagnosis
  • removal of any abusive requirements, such as ‘real-life-experience’, spousal veto, age barriers, or identity within the gender binary (male/ female)
  • introduction of a quick, transparent, accessible procedure based on self-determination
